10 Years

of prison for Wendie Ann Schweikert after pleading guilty to to sexually assaulting her fifth-grade student. Her sentence should have been 20 years but since it was her"first charge" the sentence was reduced to 10 with 5 years probation.

Why couldn't she just serve the 20? I don't think I want to hang around for her to acquire more charges. If they wanted to reduce years, why not give her 18, to remind her of the acceptable legal age for such activity.

Check out the video of her tearful 3 page letter of apology.

Do You Wanna Have Sex? Check Yes, No, Maybe

That's what went through my mind when I heard about the latest Laurens County teacher arrest. 23 year-old Allenna Williams Ward was arrested Wednesday for charges of engaging in sex with at least 5 of her 7th grade students ages 14 and 15. Clinton authorities say these incidents go back as far as December until 2 weeks ago.

Her reign of pleasure (sorry, couldn't help myself) was brought to an end when she passed a letter to one of her students. The student and several others took it to the school principle where she immediately began an investigation.
This arrest comes a year after the infamous arrest of Wendie Ann Schweikert in Laurens. I must say the Clinton school district handled this case much better than Laurens.

Stepping Up The Game

It is a known fact(to us at least) that there is a racial disparity in the publishing industry. Many Black writers have complained about book segregation in book stores, lack of review site support, etc. I won't bother to go into detail, because WE already know the deal.

Knowing how rare it is for more "mainstream" review sites/blogs to take the time to review Black writers, nothing hurts my heart more than to see a poor review. See, every time they give us (I say us because when it comes to Blacks, we always serve as a representation of the entire race) it justifies their reluctance to review our work.

How many times have we heard a non-black reader claim that they don't read OUR books because they find them inferior? How many times have we heard Black readers make the same claim? It makes no sense to generalize all our work by one or two, since we all can think of several non-black writers that produce nothing but crap (I won't call names but everybody know). Unfortunately we have to prove our books' worth.

WE NEED TO STEP OUR GAME UP!

We need to stop sending out this poorly edited crap and calling in gold. I know, I know, WE don't get good editors. Well Honey, God helps those that help themselves. Invest in a dictionary and thesaurus, then USE THEM. If your writing still needs help, get an editor. You don't have to invest in those con artist editors, go to a local college and find some English majors. It's amazing the work you can get for $50 bucks. Stop depending on the Company editors, I'm sure they will appreciate the effort put behind your work.

Then we come back to the issue of lack of reviews. First of all, STOP GRIPING about "mainstream" review sites not reviewing you work if you haven't submitted any books. Stop jumping the gun. Don't give me that "I only get a limited number of copies". Pardon me, I know I don't have a publishing credit under my belt and all, but I believe that holds true for ALL authors, Black; White; Plaid with purple polka dots. This is a business which means you are going to have to invest in your BUSINESS. Ever hear the saying "It takes money to make money"? They don't say it just cause it sounds catchy. Buy some extra copies of your book and send them out (it's a tax write-off anyway). You don't have to keep sending to that particular review site if they keep refusing your work. Point is, stop accusing people of "hidden racism" if you haven't given them a fair chance. Now if they act a fool with you, that's a different story.

I'm not saying there isn't racism in the publishing industry. Heck, racism can be found any and everywhere if you look hard enough for it. We need to stop playing victim and take charge of our destiny. Work harder, smarter, produce the best darn book we can. Prove to the "mainstream readers" that Our books are just as good if not better than mainstream. Break down those barriers one at a time. But we can't until We make conscious decision to STEP OUR GAME UP.

Alma Mater (Not So) Dear

Last Saturday was homecoming weekend for Barber-Scotia. I didn't go, since Scotia and I did not part on good terms. Oh, I received my degree and all, we just didn't have a healthy relationship. If I were to describe my matriculation, I would compare it to living with a crack-whore mother.

Some people may call that a little harsh, but that's the nicest thing I could think of. The school was falling apart around us, literally falling apart. One of the girl's dorms, Graves Hall, was actually condemned my senior year. The student union (excuse me the college union as unofficially named by the then president) leaked and the ceiling was falling in on the upper level.
I can't even begin to describe what actual classes were like. So it was no surprise when the school lost its SACS Accreditation.

Fortunately they lost accreditation the year AFTER I graduated. Unfortunately they recalled 30 degrees from my graduating class (don't worry, I still have my worthless degree). The past 2 1/2 years have been a comedy of errors as the Alumni Association tries to keep the school going.

This year they celebrated homecoming at a school with only 8 students. I don't know if I should admire their spirit or call them crazy.

Still Don't Get Myspace

I have never understood the appeal of Myspace. Even way back when it was a hang out for teens and pedophiles I couldn't see the point of it. Now everyone and their momma has a Myspace page. Everywhere I turn someone is preaching the values of having a Myspace page. Guess what, I still don't get it.

Last month my stupid behind cousin called me and had the nerve to suggest I set up at Myspace. This is the way the conversation went:

SAC : Man Ginny, You need to get on Myspace.

Me: Why?

SAC: Networking man, networking. I got this writer, spoken
word poet guy that friended (still trying to figure out if this is an
actual term) me.

Me: Uhh huh. So how exactly does this count as networking. I mean do
you exchange email, chat online or anything? Has he hooked you up with
some of his contacts or vice versa?

SAC: Uhh, no. Well actually, I haven't seen or spoke with him
since he friended me.

Me: Oh yes that's networking at its best.

SAC: Seriously Ginny, I'm just saying you should try it.

Me: I'm sorry but until someone can explain how having Peaches69
(sorry if that's an actual name) as a friend with the standard
hootchie club photo with her girls counts as networking, I'm going to have
to pass.

I attended an online workshop where the presenter repeatedly stressed we should get a Myspace page but still never truly explained it. The closest I've gotten to a decent explanation was Candice. She uses it to email newsletters and alerts or something to that effect.

I guess I'm the last stick in the mud refusing to join Myspace.

What Tarot Card Are You?

You are The High Priestess

Science, Wisdom, Knowledge, Education.

The High Priestess is the card of knowledge, instinctual, supernatural, secret knowledge. She holds scrolls of arcane information that she might, or might not reveal to you. The moon crown on her head as well as the crescent by her foot indicates her willingness to illuminate what you otherwise might not see, reveal the secrets you need to know. The High Priestess is also associated with the moon however and can also indicate change or fluxuation, particularily when it comes to your moods.

Boy I'm glad I wasn't in Clinton Yesterday

Since I'm always talking about setting someone on fire with Lysol and a lighter or foaming bathroom cleaner, I had to post this.

This morning the Laurens radio station reported an armed robbery in Clinton yesterday. A woman held up a check loan place using a can of Raid bug spray and a lighter. She threatened to blow the clerk up with the Raid if the clerk didn't give her $400+ (She had a specific amount but I didn't catch the exact amount). The suspect was captured at her home after a city-wide search.

David Allen Rodgers was arrested for driving drunk during the Anderson Christmas parade last week. He led the police on a three mile chase with 18 people on the float. He's since been charged with 18 counts kidnapping, assault, and open container.

A few days later, a woman shot herself in the hand after attempting to light her cigarette with a pistol. She thought the gun was a lighter.

Book Pimpage: Unified Souls

Cyborgs do not show emotion. Cyborgs are more machine than actual humanoid. By all intent and purpose they are perfect.

Then a viral anomaly appears in their programming, and the cyborgs wipe each other out. Surviving by sheer accident, Jasmine Storm escapes the civil war and is propelled into the humanoid world. She spends her days as a security officer on Webster's Casino, observing humanoids and trying to understand their bizarre, emotional behavior.

Then she starts having emotions as well; feeling and memories that are not hers, or are they? They come not from her neural implants, but from some mysterious source – a source that Storm doesn't understand.

Devin Cartell, a rebel in the Uprising against the oppressive, war-bent Regime, came to Webster's to buy a splitter card to help him in the rebels' newest offensive; instead, he meets Jasmine Storm, and everything he knows is turned upside down.

Cartell is binded to his Kerabal, Mashlia Mayd, as was determined when they both were children. Yet he feels more emotion, more fire in the spiritual plane with cyborg Jasmine. Trapped between what he wants to do and what he should do, Cartell learns that Storm may
very well hold the key to defeating the Regime.

Can Jasmine Storm's past be the key to their future?

Where does Your Beauty Lie?

Where Does Your Beauty Lie?

D:

Your Beauty lies in Intelligence. Logical, wise and a book-worm. You have a mature beauty and look that shows how smart you are. You rely solely on your logic to solve all your or anyone else's problems, which is a bit of a two-sided coin. The fact makes you seem rather emotionless and cold to some people. Not everything can be solved with logic. Despite it, many come to you for advice and love how smart you are, wondering if there is anything you don't know. You probably don't wear much make-up as it distracts you from your studies, but you may wear a pair of glasses just because you like how you look in them, whether you need them or not. For the most part, your looks mean little to you, which makes all the more attractive, especially when you're concentrated on something. Good for you. Now go get your next A .

Some Things That Represent You:

Keeping it Real Moment: BET Awards and Gasoline Drawers

I normally don't bother to watch the BET Awards because I can't stand watching ghetto behind people patting themselves on the back for 2 hours. Oh, I don't like some of the celebrities either. I made an exception this year since Prince was going to perform and Chaka Khan was receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award (sing it with me I'm Every Woman). I was dismayed to discover that they had now added a red carpet show, 2 more hours of Negroes with no talent patting themselves on the back while kissing up to the so-called talents. Here's my take of the award show:

Chaka Khan - Her set was great with Prince (that purple outfit was hot) on guitar and Stevie [Wonder] on keyboard. India Arie and Yolanda sang some. Umm, I can't remember which song Yolanda did (which tells you just how great it was), but she should just stick with the gospel.

Prince - The Purple Wonder's performance at the end was hot, although he could have done without tossing the mic to Will.I. Aint uhh, I mean Am. Will.I. Am. (Gag). I don't know why but he just doesn't set well with my spirit. Hopefully, Prince won't make that mistake twice.

Highlight of the Night - Kirk Franklin won the Best Gospel Award. He failed to start his speech with the "I'd like to thank/give honor to God routine." Instead he, thanked his wife, kids, labels, singers, musicians (wait for it...) then ends with "Jesus, I thank you not with my words but by the way I live". For those of you missing the punchline, Franklin admitted he was addicted to porn last November on Oprah. First thing I said after hearing that speech was "What, does that mean he was thanking God while he was whacking off in the hotel room?"

Yeah, I know. I'm going to hell with gasoline soaked drawers.

Update: Gah, now there's an hour long back patting show, Black Carpet Lounge. See this is what happens when you let a bunch of ghetto behind people have their own channel.

You never know who God uses as a messenger or the manner in which you receive the message. I was outraged by a person's behavior last week. This person repeatedly expressed his/herself in a manner that made me question their sanity at best and fear [demonic] possession at worst. Throughout their tirade, they constantly referred to their bank account. During this time I realized that even with all that so-called wealth s/he was still spiritually derelict.

Thank you for reminding me that even with my empty bank account, I am still a very wealthy woman.

Where was Your Soul Born

Where was your soul born?[pics + detailed answers]

Your soul was born in the Shadows.Your soul was born in the shadows of the moon at night. You're all mystery and enigma and your element is the Moon. No one really knows who you are, but they might think they know you. You only tell people fragments of who you are and never show your true personality. That doesn't have to mean that youre being someone you're not though. You're always yourself and you never do something just because someone else does. Some might think you're a little cold or dull, but you're just hiding your true self for some reason. Maybe only a couple of selected people have ever seen the true you. You are loyal to these people and it will take time if anyone else wants to gain your trust. You let people think that they know you and that you trust them. But sooner or later they will realize that they never really knew you. Be careful. Someday you might need someone who knows what you need. Trust people. You prefer silence and tranquillity. You're calm and collected and a nice person most of the time.

Unfunny, Uncouth, and Unread

"Ain't it funny, the way people act when they make a little money?"

Mary Janice Davidson, Authors Behaving Badly repeat offender, is at it again. This time she attacked Indida. I am posting highlights of the comment but follow the link to see it in its entirety.

MJD writes:

Stop writing? Oh my dear, not even if you stuck a gun in my ear. Which,
given the frequency and venom of your cyber-tantrums, wouldn't surprise me.
Anyone who works herself into a slavering rage so easily probably has felony
assault on her to-do list

She follows with:
As someone mildly concerned for your health (your blood pressure must be on
the moon! do have your local G.P. give it a check; I fear you might stroke out
if we queen bitches don't burst into flames at your command) I tried to quell
the giggles as I read your tantrum du jour.

These comments offended me. Implying that someone has criminal tendencies, hoping someone experiences personal injury and poor health. What kind of person is this? Normal people don't behave in such a fashion. Sane people don't spew maliciousness to the point of being downright evil. As my mother would say, "There has to be a demon in her".

I wasn't going to say anything at first since this isn't my fight. I felt pointing out this behavior would just give MJD the attention she so obviously craves. But then I realized that by not speaking my mind, I was allowing myself to become subjugated by these writers. We need to let these individuals know that this type of behavior is not ACCEPTABLE. It's not cute, it's not funny. It's just WRONG.

MJD has repeatedly made reference to her blue collar roots. She seems to have confused blue collar with trash. Blue collar folk are simple, hard working people who may not have a lot, but are grateful for what they have. Blue collar people may not have a lot of formal education, but they do have a deeply ingrained sense of right and wrong--qualities MJD obviously lacks. While I am hesitant to cast aspersion on the rest of MJD's family, I will say that her comments have led me to the conclusion that SHE is pure filth.

Her final statement:
I'm the Queen Bitch over here in the corner, the one saying "Ha. Ha. HA." while she reads her bank statement.

That may be true for now, but how long will that last? How long before readers become disenchanted with MJD's personality? Every time she runs off at the mouth, more and more readers vow to never buy her books. How long before it begins to reflect on her bank statement? Karma is a strange thing. You never know how or when your past transgressions will come back to bite you in the butt.

I thought I would be cute and add sound to my Blog. I found a song that was (I thought) reasonably short and not too offensive. Bad Idea! I was sick of it by the third round. I've discovered it's not a good idea to tack the song in the template. TRUST ME on this one. Anywho, It's tacked into the post now. Which hopefully won't be too painful. I think I will have to make a few adjustments if I remain consistent (Ha!) in this method. Oh well.

No Justice, No Peace!

They reduced the bond for Wendie A. Schweikert! Can you believe it? Bond was $125,000 and they reduced it to $50,000 so all she needs is 10% to get out. Thank goodness her family isn't in a hurry to get her out (at least someone has some sense in SC).

Hey Laurens, WAKE UP! You are making it easier for a child molester to return to the streets. Oh I'm sorry, it doesn't count since she's a woman (looking hard at that race card). This woman would still be having her jollies with the victim if the victim's mother hadn't brought it to the attention of the police (since the principal was looking the other way).

Easter: The Good, the Bad, and the crap that will have you seeing a therapist 20 years later

GOOD
Candy - That's a given. To be more specific I think of Cadbury Creme Eggs (I haven't bought any this year, yet), Cadbury Mini Eggs, and Mother's crazed quest to buy as many Black Jellybeans (Yuck!) as she can find.

BAD
Easter Egg Hunts - I don't know who the genius was that started this tradition, but let me give you a little Public Service Announcement.

It's not a good idea to hide perishable items such as, BOILED EGGS outside for several hours, then send innocent children looking for them. Especially if you live in warm areas, like say, South Carolina. Trust me on this. Those of you using plastic eggs, please, please, please, for the love of all things chocolate, stop putting foil wrapped chocolates in the eggs. In case you haven't noticed, chocolate melts, and isn't fun trying to suck chocolate off of foil.

Things your child will be discussing in therapy 20 years later
Easter Plays - I can't even begin to touch on the horror that is the annual Easter Play. I was in several church productions, but the one that stands out the most is His Fleece was White as Snow. I had the lead role of "Dinky the Donkey" (You can't make this stuff up) for 2 years. I still cringe whenever I see donkeys, mules, and hear the word "dinky".

What "wonderful" memories do you have of Easter?

Someone was directed to my blog by searching "Ginny having sex". Is that some kind of new fetish going around? Videos of women named Ginny engaging in sex? How jacked up does your life have to be to get your jollies from the name Ginny? Seriously!

Ok, maybe I wouldn't be so disturbed if I didn't have a celibate lifestyle. Or maybe it's just plain creepy. Now I am going to have to nightmares of perverts visiting my blog. Eww, Eww, Eww.

Scandal in Laurens (Act II)

Outraged parents are now petitioning for the resignation of the E.B. Morse Principal. This is a result of the arrest of Wendie Ann Schweikert in late February for allegedly molesting an 11-year old student at E.B. Morse.

There are mixed feelings in the community. Some people believe that the villain has already been dealt with and feel the principal should not be held accountable. Others believe this situation could have been prevented had the principal followed up on complaints about the teacher.

Before you make up your mind let's review some of the facts reported by various news resources.

  1. The mother contacted the school principal prior to arrest complaining about the teacher's contact with her son. She had the boy transferred to another class.
  2. The teacher engaged in sexual acts at least twice in the school following the transfer.
  3. The teacher had an encounter with other students present in the room at the time.

You make the call.

Sometimes I have to wonder about my town

In the last post I mentioned the big uproar in Laurens. Friday morning, Wendie Ann Schweikert was arrested for two counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor. Her bond was set at $100,000 ($50,000/charge) at her bond hearing on Saturday. Now this morning I heard on the radio that a man posted a bond over the weekend for $136,000 for animal cruelty. Can you believe that animal cruelty seems to be a bigger crime than engaging in criminal sexual activity with a minor in Laurens? Greenville had the right idea, they have already issued a warrant for her act with the victim in Greenville County.

Somebody tell me what's goin' on

This morning the local radio station reported a house fire overnight. 2 bodies had been found and it looked to be a murder/suicide. That makes the 7th murder in Laurens in 2 months.

I found out this afternoon that an elementary teacher had been arrested for having sex with a 5th grade student. WHAT!! While watching the news they reported a 2nd grade student stabbed another student with a dart at another school in Laurens County. WTF!! There was also a segment about the house fire. It seems the sister of the (deceased) alleged murderer wanted everyone to know that her brother was a good man. Huh? Just when I thought it couldn't get any weirder, they reported that 2 people had been attacked by a rabid cat and that a rabid raccoon was found in the area. You don't say.

I don't know what the heck is going on around here. But I tell you what, I won't be drinking the water .

Not As Easy As It Looks

When I first began my blog I thought it would be easy. I mean how difficult is it to just post 8random thoughts? Hah! I haven't posted in a month, even longer on another blog. It's not that I don't have anything to say. Lord knows I have plenty to say. It's just that I haven't found an acceptable way to articulate it.

It's easy to just enter anything when you don't know anyone that may venture to your blog. But once people began to advertise your personal space (thanks a lot MOTHER!) then you have to begin to worry. Well at least I do. I constantly ask Does this make me sound ghetto? Is this too militant? Will someone perceive this as racist? By the time I finished censoring myself, I couldn't remember what I was originally writing about. Or better yet, I get an idea and begin writing about it. It seems like a good topic mentally but somehow by the time it appears on screen, I have to ask myself what the heck was I thinking. There really should be a warning label for newbie bloggers.

CAUTION: This isn't as easy as it looks.

Whatever Happened to...

Brenda Ritchie. For those of you that don't know/remember the story. Brenda Ritchie was married to Lionel Ritchie. Lionel was cheating on her and she went to the other woman's apartment and whipped both the "Other Woman" and Lionel's azz.

Is she still around? Is she still planting her foot up people's behinds?

Stevie Says it Best

Someday at Christmas men won't be boys
Playing with bombs like kids play with toys
One warm December our hearts will see
A world where men are free

Someday at Christmas there'll be no wars
When we have learned what Christmas is for
When we have found what life's really worth
There'll be peace on earth

Someday all our dreams will come to be
Someday in a world where men are free
Maybe not in time for you and me
But someday at Christmastime

Someday at Christmas we'll see a Man
No hungry children, no empty hand
One happy morning people will share
Our world where people care

Someday at Christmas there'll be no tears
All men are equal and no men have fears
One shining moment my heart ran away
From our world today

Someday all our dreams will come to be
Someday in a world where men are free
Maybe not in time for you and me
But someday at Christmastime

Someday at Christmas man will not fail
Take hope because your love will prevail
Someday a new world that we can start
With hope in every heart

Someday all our dreams will come to be
Someday in a world where men are free
Maybe not in time for you and me
But someday at Christmastime
Someday at Christmastime

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Happy Holidays to You and You

I am amazed at the amount of people frothing at the mouth due to the expression "Happy Holidays". While it is true that the majority of America is Christian, let's not forget the other percentage that celebrate other holidays. As a child I celebrated three holidays in December.

Down here in the South, there is only one holiday in December and that is Christmas. Here we set up the tree, exchanged gifts, you know the routine. I was fortunate enough to have a Jewish Uncle by marriage, Uncle Danny. December visits from Uncle Danny meant presents almost everyday as he introduced me to Hanukkah. Not to be outdone by her husband, Aunt Clara and her friends taught me aspects of Kwanzaa. So I grew up celebrating multiple holidays. As I grew older, I met people that celebrated Winter Solstice and things like that. No they did not try to convert me, but I respected their holidays and they respected mine.

So my question is what is the big deal? Well, I can understand how Southerners would find it offensive since we haven't learned that there are other alternatives to Christianity yet. But what about the rest of the country? Have we all lost our minds?

Instead of focusing on what we should be calling the season, we should be focusing on the greater meaning. For me, it's a time of reflection. A time to appreciate those that are here with us, and honor those that have passed on. Time for me to improve my own Spirituality. This is when I (try) to let go of a year's worth of negativity and prepare myself for a fresh year.

With that I know I will probably offend some of you Christmas purists, but come on, I'll be typing all night if I try to list all the Holidays. So instead I wish you all

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

It's Beginning to Sound a Lot Like Christmas

It's never really Christmas until I hear certain songs. I know many places started playing Christmas music long before Thanksgiving. But there are some songs that just aren't piped in the store Muzak system. This morning I was thrilled to hear Boyz II Men's Let it Snow. Now I need to hear Donny Hathaway's This Christmas (it MUST be Donny's version), Run DMC's Christmas in Hollis, and Stevie Wonder's Someday at Christmas to make my holiday complete.

See, What Had Happened Was

Have you ever noticed that whenever a person uses a variation of "What had happened was..." they are telling a lie? If it's not a complete lie, then a misrepresentation of the truth. Think about it.

I never really noticed it until I was in college. One event in particular drove that fact home. The college I was attended has failed to enter all the Financial Aid information in the system; which resulted in over half of the student body being kicked out of the system. Many of us were in danger of losing our housing in the dorms unless we had the mess straightened out. The problem was that only ONE person could fix the problem in the system and she didn't like to work. We camped outside this woman's office for almost a week. When she finally made an appearance, she was really rude and tried to blow us off. Fed up, a group of us decided to head to the President's Office. I will never forget it . This woman ran up 3 flights of stairs in a too tight leather skirt to beat us to the President's Office.

She didn't beat us there, but as we were speaking to the President's secretary, she came busting in the Office. "See, what had happened was..." is how she started. No hello, no pause to see what we were saying. "What had happened was..." she interuppted us breathlessly. I can't remember the rest of the story she told (I was too busy watching her gasp for breath and secretly hoping she would pass out).

After that incident, I began to notice how often people start an excuse with those words. I transferred to another college, and still I encountered the "What had happened" phenomenon. I mentioned it to my mother, who thought it was funny at first (ok, she still thinks it's funny) but she had to agree. Usually when people start a sentence with "What had happened was..." it's going to be a lie.

So when someone asked me why I hadn't posted in almost a month; I couldn't help but say "Well, see, what had happened was..."
